IOR announced that they were discontinuing this line of binoculars, and they had some surplus stock they were selling off cheap. We got a couple of pairs in to see what they were like. They were typical Soviet military style. Solid and rugged, with a rubber outer covering and a quality of finish that says "Eastern European" all over it - which is probably why IOR decided to stop making them. But.... Oh, the optics! Have you ever dreamed of having a pair of Zeiss 7x42 binoculars and luxuriating in a crisp, clear image full of detail that you could almost reach out and touch? Well, that is what it's like looking through the IOR 7x40s. Even at deep dusk, they just suck in the photons so that nothing is lost in the shadows. So we immediately ordered another ten pairs. With Zeiss 7x42 binos retailing at around £1200, you might be hesitant about clambouring across rocky glens and through thick forest in persuit of a deer with such prime examples of German optical engineering swinging from your neck. But if optical quality like that only cost £350 (inc VAT) brand new in the box - you would have a pair of binos that would not only be great to use, but you could also afford to use - right? We figure that like us, you will think that binoculars are for looking through, not at, and you will jump at this limited one-time-only offer of truly great binoculars at a bargain-basement price. But hurry hurry, we only have ten pairs and lots of other people are going to think just like you....
